Come hear an update on the 2009 American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA), the multifamily projects underway, and important issues related to further implementation of ARRA funds including Section 1602 and TCAP resource allocations.

Poverty Simulation - Part 1Asset Building

*Please register in advance for this session and plan to attend both part I and part II. We need a minimum number of participants in order to conduct the session and participants are required to attend both parts.
This interactive session will educate participants about the day to day realities of life with a shortage of money and abundance of stress faced by individuals in deep poverty. During the simulation, participants will role-play the lives of low-income families, from single parents trying to care for their children to senior citizens trying to maintain self-sufficiency on Social Security. The task of each family is to provide food, shelter, and other basic necessities during the simulation while interacting with various community resources staffed by low-income volunteers. The purpose of the simulation is to enable participants to view poverty from different angles in an experiential setting. Participants will leave with a better understanding of the perspective and plight of the people they serve. The simulation will be run by AmeriCorps members statewide
